IKEDC [ Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company ] have announced plans for the reconductoring of a 132kv power line by the TCN. The task is geared towards enlarging the wheeling capacity across the IE network. The project is set to commence on October 11. The areas to be affected include
- Police Training College,
- Oba Akran,
- Oke Ira,
- Omole Phase One.
- Ikeja City Mall,
- Police College,
- Lagos State University Teaching Hospital
- Ikeja Judicature (High Court).
The above mentioned places are going to be plagued by the project The chief tech officer made it known that the TCN will also move to Alimosho and Agege axis within the next stage. Kumapayi noted that there will be power outage for 8 weeks during the reconductoring exercise.
The reconductoring came as a necessity because a number of the 132Kv lines installed over 50 years ago had become outdated and deteriorated due to time and usage. He also added that the TCN is currently embarking on the upgrade of the 132KV lines from the western part of Ikeja to Ota and Alimosho in steps while stating that this is the second stage of the upgrade. According to IEEE standards, Kumakpayi said all aluminum conductors will be substituted with gap conductors which is more sophisticated to resist heat and has more capacity to hold current. Residents and business owners are hereby informed that from 8am to 6pm time frame every day, the substations controlling these areas will be switched off which will affect the feeders connected to them.
