74% Of Power Users In Nigeria Have Less Than 12 Hours Of Electricity Supply – World Bank

The world bank has revealed that 74% of power users in nigeria have less than 12 hours of electricity supply daily.

The Global financial body disclosed this at the Power Sector Recovery Programme .

The opinion research fact sheet obtained in Abuja stated that the findings were made and conclusion drawn from after a thorough survey carried out by the financial institution.

Providing highlights from it’s analysis and findings : World bank said –

• 67% of power users are willing to pay more if supply is improved.

• 93% of consumers paid their electricity bills regularly when their units are exhausted.

• 67% agrees that electricity theft is a big issue, and affects the quality of supply greatly.

• 58% do not have a meter to measure their electricity use.

• 78% have less than 12 hours daily access to electricity supply.

• 74% are dissatisfied with electricity supply

• 62% do not believe that the power sector have efficient manageability.

• 87% are very much unaware of the ongoing ( PSRP ) reforms In the power sector.

• 82% are totally clueless of tariff band classification.

• 53% do not receive adequate customer service from the distribution companies ( DISCOs ).

Respondents were generally not satisfied with the – metering system, since electricity tariff is a nationwide concern, they called for noticeable improvement in the the delivery of service before increase in tariffs can be made.

Furthermore, they expressed very high level of distrust with respect to Government’s commitment to improved power supply – since the issue of electricity theft and vandalism is still a major issue and has a significant impact on the quality of power supply.

The world bank also discovered that majority of the respondent’s, possessed zero knowledge of the key policies and activities of the government and various operators.
