Japan has allegedly suspended the use of some batches of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine due to the presence of black particle constituents in its vial.
According to reports, a japanese pharmacist was said to have made the shocking discovery in one vial of the vaccine in kagawa prefecture while checking for foreign substances before use. Although , roughly 3,790 people have already received the jab from the batch , the remnant of the batch has now been suspended .
Information from the japanese health authority disclosed that the new development comes less than a week after the country suspended the use of about 1.63 million Moderna doses due to contamination. The vaccine distributor in Japan Takeda Pharmaceutical, had as of last week also suspended the use of three batches of the vaccine due to the presence of “foreign materials” in a batch of 560,000 vials.
Meanwhile Spanish pharmaceutical firm Rovi, who bottles the vaccine, said in a statement that investigation was underway, while On Tuesday, August 31, Japan’s health minister claimed foreign matter found in the vaccine in the southern prefecture of Okinawa were due to needles being incorrectly inserted into vials.
