The Nigerian Communication commission has fined leading network providers – Airtel,Glo, and MTN the sum of 78.5 million Naira for allegedly breaching the sim replacement guidelines for customers.
According to the regulatory body NCC, the breach was discovered in the sim replacement audit conducted in the 4th Quarter of 2020. All three mobile networks were found to be in absolute breach.
The notice of sanction has since been given to the defaulting mobile network operators. Each of the network operators were fined According to the number of infractions recorded against their respective networks.
See breakdown of the 78.5 million Naira fine and infractions incurred by each of them-
Airtel 3.2 million Naira – 13 infractions recorded on the network
MTN 36 million Naira – 24 infractions recorded on the network
Glo 39.2 million Naira – 39.2 infractions recorded on the network.
Meanwhile, 9mobile wasn’t given any fine to pay, since they recorded the smallest infractions on their Network. They were issued a strong warning instead.
