Following his death, he becomes the second rapper in as many months to be robbed and killed after attending a dice game hosted by J. Prince Jr.
Meanwhile, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said in a social media post that he spoke with Quavo Marshall and the Houston mayor to ask for updates in the investigation.
Dickens said Takeoff was the humble and quiet member of the trio. He said his senseless death is another reminder that gun violence must be stopped.
“I’m asking us to stop the violence,” he said, referring to Black males. “I’m asking us to make sure that we look to ourselves as people who can advocate for peace.”
Dickens blamed guns and aspiring rappers for the violence.
“I do not believe that hip-hop equals violence. I grew up on the music,” the 48-year-old mayor said. “I’m still into the music. Guns plus people being mad equals bad outcomes.”
