A man from Zimbabwe has ignited fury within the Nemhari community due to accusations of pilfering more than 30 pairs of women’s lingerie for a contentious local sexual rite called mubobobo.
The individual, known as Augustine Marimo, reportedly targeted garments that were left to dry on clotheslines and those found in shared bathing spots.
His wrongdoing came to light during a traditional court gathering led by Headman Nemhari, wherein multiple victims, Marimo, and his mother, Fridah Chiweshe, were summoned to address the community.
One of the unnamed women shared that she attended the session out of sheer curiosity to confirm the circulating gossip. However, she was left in disbelief upon recognizing a particular pair of panties that belonged to her deceased sister, an item of deep emotional value that she had not realized was missing. The notion that it had been utilized in a sexual ritual was termed “disgusting.”
She stated that Marimo did not refute the claims. Instead, he supposedly provided a chilling account of his use of the pilfered lingerie. Allegedly, he confessed to placing the garments on his bed, engaging in self-pleasure on them, and visualizing himself in sexual scenarios with the women they belonged to. He characterized those experiences as strikingly vivid, despite the women’s complete lack of consent or knowledge.
This same woman recounted that her marriage had started to unravel around the time her underwear went missing. She depicted how intimacy with her spouse ceased almost two years ago, and although he initially expressed concern, their bond had since become increasingly distant and emotionally frigid.
Even more alarming disclosures surfaced when Marimo supposedly indicated that he was compelled by an enigmatic spiritual voice instructing him to steal the garments and perform the rituals. He allegedly warned the court that the voice cautioned him against disclosing its source, under threat of severe repercussions if he did so.
The incident has incited widespread anger and trepidation within the community, prompting many to ponder how long such practices may have remained unnoticed. Traditional leaders are now facing mounting pressure to tackle the issue and implement firm measures to restore confidence and safety among the locals.
