Following a directive from the president, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, announced on Thursday that 11,566 officers who were earlier assigned to protect Very Important Persons (VIPs) have been recalled.
This was shared during a meeting with top police officials in Abuja, where Egbetokun explained that the presidential order has given him full authority to carry out the directive without any hindrance. He also mentioned that no VIP will challenge the decision because the order came directly from the President.
Egbetokun encouraged the officers to stay professional and dedicated to protecting the country, emphasizing the importance of constant efforts to stop crime nationwide. He further stated that the police will not stop in their efforts to tackle existing security issues and are working closely with other security groups to keep the nation safe.
