The tremor struck at a depth of 30 kilometers, with its epicenter situated at Latitude 31.09 N and Longitude 131.47 E. The NCS verified the specifics in a statement on X, declaring: “EQ of M: 6.0, On: 02/04/2025 19:34:00 IST, Lat: 31.09 N, Long: 131.47 E, Depth: 30 Km, Location: Kyushu, Japan.
Fortunately, no immediate reports of injuries or substantial structural damage have emerged, but officials are vigilantly observing the situation for any updates.
Additionally, another earthquake registering a magnitude of 6.2 struck 54 km ENE of Nishinoomote, Japan, at 14:03 GMT on the same day, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This quake had an epicenter at a depth of 26.0 km, with preliminary coordinates recorded at 31.00 degrees north latitude and 131.47 degrees east longitude. Kyushu and Nishinoomote are roughly 220 kilometers (about 137 miles) apart, with Nishinoomote located on Tanegashima Island, which lies south of Kyushu.
