The Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC ) which was in the news towards the end of last year over allegations of corruption and name calling of federal law makers who are beneficiaries of stolen loots has been declared broke.
The Minister for Niger Delta Affairs – Senator Godswill Akpabio speaking on Friday at the NDDC strategic capacity building workshop in uyo Akwa Ibom state capital stated that the commission was broke, and Lamented about the poor funding of the system, staying that the budgetary provision for the system is not steady, and does not come as and when due.
More so, He cited corruption, lack of proper consultation and engagement with communities and state government, weak political and institutional governance, transparency ,and accountability in overall performance information amongst others as major challenges plaguing the commission.
Furthermore, Akpabio called for an amendment to the law establishing the agency if need be , whilst stating he was determined to leave the commission better than he found it.
