Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Other Social Media Platforms Must Register As Businesses In Nigeria – FG

The Nigerian government has said Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms must register in the country as businesses.


The revealation was made by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed while speaking to State House Correspondents on Wednesday.

Mohammed claimed that Twitter, which was recently suspended by the federal government, has reached out to him for a “high-level” discussion.


According to the Minister , Twitter was suspended because it provided a platform for interaction between Person’s threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.



Lai Mohammed allegedly claimed that the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, helped to bank roll last year’s #EndSARS protest and is also allowing the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to use the medium to call for the killing of Nigerian security operatives.


He clearly pointed out that another conditions that must be met before the Nigerian government can lift the suspension on Twitter, is that the social media firm must be registered in Nigeria as a business concern, and this extends to other social media platforms – Facebook and Instagram.
