Musical artists – Dj Maphorisa, Davido and Veteran singer May D took to microblogging platform Twitter to battle it out as the question of who introduced the Amapiano genre of music to the Nigerian Music Industry sprang up.
Amapiano is a South African style of house music that emerged in 2012. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads, and wide percussive basslines.
The heated argument started with a tweet from South African Dj Maphorisa in response to Davido being credited for the success of amapiano in Africa and the rest of the world.
Davido thus responded stating that Maphorisa never liked him and he doesn’t know why.
Meanwhile, jumping into the ongoing battle Davido’s brother, Adewale Adeleke in a reaction to Maphorisa’s post stating that his younger brother gets disrespected by music creatives even after helping them.
However, May D has now claimed he is the real originator of Amapiano music in Nigeria as he started the Nigeria-South African collaboration.
