INEC – The Independence National Electoral Commission reveals intention to keep in check Hate Speech and disbursement of funds During Election Campaigns.
According to the Chairman , the electoral commission is prepared to monitor hate speeches likely to provoke a breach of the peace during the electioneering campaigns, and compliance with the limits on campaign spending by political parties under the Electoral Act.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made the recent update on the Electoral act public during his goodwill message at the signing of the Peace Accord for peaceful campaign organized by the National Peace Committee in Abuja.
Yakubu who outlined the need for a peaceful and issue-based electioneering campaigns, appealed to political parties to convey the message of peace to their candidates, members and supporters across the country for compliance.
