Betty Otimenyin Assumes Role As First Female CP In Edo

Betty Otimenyin officially took on her role as the inaugural female Commissioner of Police in Edo State on Monday, January 27.

Arriving at the Police Command headquarters shortly before 10 a.m., Otimenyin was greeted with a ceremonial guard. She is the 49th person to be appointed as Commissioner of Police in the region, taking over from Umoru Ozigi, who stepped down on Saturday, January 25, upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.

In a short conversation with journalists, Otimenyin, a native of Edo State, highlighted her dedication to diminishing crime rates throughout the South-South state. “I will undertake several initiatives until the crime rate declines,” she remarked. Furthermore, she indicated that the command would adopt a stricter approach towards issues like officer extortion, in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s position on these matters.

Otimenyin also committed to enhancing measures aimed at addressing violence against women and children within the state. Having joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992, she has previously occupied various significant roles, including that of Commissioner of Police in the Force Intelligence Department (FID), where she managed administration.
