President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the selection of Chioma Awuzie as the permanent Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, starting February 5, 2025, for a duration of five years.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Chijioke Ibezimako, affirmed the selection in Awka on Thursday, noting that the resolution came after the Governing Council’s recommendation, chaired by Senator Dr Barnabas Gemade.
Chioma Awuzie is an internationally esteemed academic with a vast array of research and publications in the domain of science and technology.
She possesses a Doctorate Degree in Physical and Materials Chemistry and serves as a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology at Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
Prior to her role as Rector, Awuzie was the Director overseeing Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Projects at the Polytechnic. Additionally, she has occupied several significant leadership roles, including:
- Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Research and Development
- Director of the Petroleum, Coal, and Renewable Energy Research Unit
- Director of International Higher Education Academic Organisations
- Coordinator, Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET)
Awuzie was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Technology syllabus for Polytechnics under the auspices of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This syllabus, presently implemented throughout the country, seeks to improve technical expertise and advocate for sustainable energy alternatives across Nigeria.
