Iran reports that over 70 individuals lost their lives when Israel targeted the infamous Evin prison in Tehran during the twelve-day conflict.
Among the 71 casualties are staff members, soldiers mandated to serve in the facility, inmates, and civilians, states Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary, as conveyed by Iranian news sources.
The strike is said to have focused on the administrative sectors of the prison, which largely houses political detainees. Additionally, visitor areas, where family members come to see their loved ones, sustained damage. Nearby residential properties were also impacted, resulting in fatalities among the local inhabitants, according to Jahangir.

Nonetheless, it has been confirmed that individuals such as prosecutor Ali Ghanaatkar, who has imprisoned numerous Iranians for political motives, were also among the deceased in the assault. He has notably been involved in the prosecution of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi.
