Mumbai Airport Incident: Live Snakes Found in Passenger’s Luggage

Indian customs authorities have intercepted a flight traveler arriving from Thailand with live snakes packed in their baggage. This marks the third incident of this nature occurring within a month.

“Yet another attempt to smuggle has been thwarted, as reported by Indian customs officials at Mumbai airport.”

The 16 live serpents, which include garter snakes and a Kenyan sand boa, are either non-venomous or possess such minimal venom that they are regarded as non-threatening to humans.

Earlier in June, a traveler was apprehended with venomous snakes concealed in their luggage, and shortly thereafter, another individual was detained for attempting to enter India with nearly 100 wild creatures, comprising marsupials and tarantulas. Both individuals hailed from Thailand.

The illegal trafficking of animals is largely fueled by the significant appetite for exotic pets.
