President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the infrastructural achievements of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, particularly the ongoing development of the state’s inaugural flyover bridge, calling it a significant initiative in alleviating urban congestion and modernizing Edo’s transportation network.
The President commended the governor’s vision in launching the one-kilometre flyover project at Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, emphasizing that its completion would revolutionize vehicle movement and enhance the urban structure of Benin City.
Tinubu lauded Okpebholo’s initial accomplishments in office, asserting that the governor has established a new benchmark of governance in Edo.“This is a 24-span edifice, with each span measuring 20 meters, totaling a one-kilometre bridge. The caliber and speed of the work are remarkable. Edo is experiencing a first, and I advocate for more such initiatives to emerge in Benin City to tackle the severe traffic,” Umahi conveyed on behalf of the President.

The Minister compared the efficacy of state-led projects with certain federal contracts, lamenting that contractors frequently exhibit greater diligence under governors compared to when managing federal endeavors. He promised to enforce stricter accountability measures at the federal tier to guarantee value for expenditure and timely outcomes.
“I applaud Governor Okpebholo for emphasizing concrete technology. Roads constructed with reinforced concrete endure for 50 to 100 years, conserving valuable resources. Nigeria cannot persist in spending on repetitive reconstruction. We need to invest in long-lasting solutions,” Umahi emphasized.
