A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has endorsed President Donald Trump’s assertion that genocide is occurring in Nigeria.
Garba shared his perspective while commenting on the recent classification of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ by the U.S. President. He stated that, based on the staggering number of casualties from violent assaults nationwide, the circumstances can only be labeled as genocide. Reflecting on the issue, Garba recalled that back in 2014, when the APC was still in opposition, several of its members approached the White House to request assistance regarding the mass murders taking place in Nigeria.
He highlighted that innocent individuals have continued to perish in their homes and neighborhoods without any safeguards.
He remarked: “In 2014, the Nigerian opposition, then part of the APC, engaged with the White House in search of help concerning the genocide taking place in Nigeria.“When you consider the countless individuals who have lost their lives throughout the country, in their communities, while they sleep in their houses, defenseless, what else can it be termed? It’s nothing short of outright genocide.”
Nonetheless, Garba pointed out that although he concurs with Trump’s perspective, it would be misleading to refer to the crisis as ‘Christian genocide.’ He argued that both Christians and Muslims have endured suffering and lost lives due to the ongoing violence.
