President Tinubu has instructed the immediate removal of police officers who are currently providing security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) throughout the country.
A statement, signed by Bayo Onanuga, his spokesperson, stated that from now on, police authorities will focus on their main responsibilities.This presidential order was given during a security meeting that President Tinubu held on Sunday with the heads of the police, Air Force, Army, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services in Abuja.
According to the directive, VIPs who need police protection will now ask for well-equipped personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.In many parts of Nigeria, especially in remote areas, there are not enough police officers stationed, making it hard to protect and defend the people.
The statement mentioned that due to the current security problems the country is facing, Tinubu wants to increase police presence in all communities. Already, President Tinubu has approved the hiring of 30,000 more police officers.
