Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong shared a tough time he had during his time at university, which had a big impact on his life and his beliefs. In an interview with Taymesan, he revealed he was wrongly accused of being part of a cult and was kicked out of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Daniel Etim-Effiong said the experience really shook him up and made him feel very emotional, especially since he didn’t think he did anything wrong.nAfter leaving school, he moved to Jos in Plateau State. He said the new place gave him a sense of freedom, but that freedom brought along anger and confusion. During that time, he started doing things like smoking and spending time with women, which he connected to feeling frustrated and disappointed with life. He explained that this situation affected his relationship with God.

At that time, he was active in Christian activities and part of a student group. He thought people he trusted would support him when the false accusation came up, but he said the group didn’t stand up for him or protest his expulsion. The lack of support from people he trusted hurt him a lot and left him feeling discouraged. As time went on, Daniel Etim-Effiong said he started going to church less, feeling abandoned during one of the hardest times in his life.
He said: “That same year I got expelled from the university for belonging to cult, for belonging to confra. Which confra? I was a church boy.“It was in Jos I started smoking, it was in Jos I started womanizing, because I was free and it was just like I was almost like angry at God.“I’m like ‘Why did you let this thing happen to me? like I was an SU, you didn’t even defend me.“I told the fellowship in FUTMINNA then that ‘You guys should protest.’”
