A controversial Islamic leader, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has criticized the US government for recent airstrikes in Nigeria. He says the US should focus on helping herders with education and basic needs, not spending a lot on weapons.
Gumi believes that lack of knowledge is one of the main problems that herding communities face. He says bombing won’t fix the security issues they have.
Gumi made these comments after seeing a video that went viral. The video shows a Fulani man who found a barrel he thought was from a missile fired by US soldiers in a field.
Gumi said the man didn’t understand the danger of unexploded military equipment. He shared his thoughts on Facebook, worrying that such things could lead to more deaths.

Gumi pointed out that the man in the video didn’t know basic religious teachings or the risks of unexploded bombs.
He said most herders need help to escape ignorance, not more attacks. He added that the man didn’t even know the basics of Islam or the danger of bombs.
Gumi has always believed education is the answer, not violence.
He said that instead of dropping a $2 million bomb, the US could use that money to build schools and improve living conditions for herders.
