The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) has shared that the Nigerian tax ID portal will start working across the country on January 1, 2026. This is part of their plan to make tax management more modern and efficient.
They made this announcement through a message posted on their official X account on Monday.
The JRB explained that the tax ID is a special number created by the system for everyone who has to pay taxes in Nigeria.
It is used only for tax-related tasks.
They mentioned that for individuals, the tax ID will be connected to their national ID number.
For businesses and groups, it will be tied to their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number.
The JRB said that from the day this new system starts, the old tax IDs will no longer be used. They also clarified that having this new tax ID won’t cause any issues with bank accounts, like being taken away or closed because of not following the rules.
The portal is built to help taxpayers have one clear ID, make it easier to access tax services, and work well all over the country.
The JRB asked people to get their tax ID through the official website or go to a nearby tax office if they need help.
