Legal Team of Clergyman Chris Okafor Asks Accusers for Evidence

The legal team representing Lagos-based religious leader Chris Okafor has asked Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and other bloggers to give proof for their claims against him to the Nigerian Police. They have warned that not doing so might result in legal action.

Speaking to reporters in Lagos on Wednesday, Ife Ajayi, the cleric’s lawyer and lead partner at Sovereignty LP, said the claims spreading online are untrue and harmful, part of a planned attack using cyberbullying, threats, and encouraging public anger.

Ajayi said the claims, which got more attention in December 2025, started from Ogala and were spread by bloggers and online platforms without asking for his client’s response.

He said his client is a law-abiding Nigerian who simply wants to live privately. He said the current situation isn’t fair reporting or responsible media. It’s an attempt to judge him in public without proper evidence.

He explained that the situation started in late 2024 after a business deal involved Ogala and another person.
Pastor Okafor ended the deal when he realized the expected results weren’t achievable.

Ogala then said that the cleric owed her 45 million naira, a claim he said has no basis.

According to Ajayi, the claims then moved from money disputes to claims of a romantic relationship and eventually to serious criminal behavior.

He said that whenever one claim didn’t work, another followed. It was a deliberate attempt to see what would be believed.

Ajayi shared that Ogala had been arrested before and charged with cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and making threats over similar online actions.

A settlement was reached through the court. He said in the agreement, Ogala received a certain amount of money and promised not to speak about Pastor Chris Okafor publicly.

He said that during those proceedings, Ogala never claimed rape, assault, or an affair. Those claims came later after the agreement was supposedly broken.

The lawyer said new complaints were made to the Nigeria Police after more online attacks, which led to Ogala being arrested and questioned before Christmas 2025.

Ogala denied some of the more serious accusations made about her online during her police interview and asked for legal help.

He said she was given bail on medical grounds and warned not to make new claims on social media without proof.

He said despite the warning, more accusations appeared online, including claims of sexual offenses and people being labeled as victims.

Ajayi blamed VDM and other platforms for using their influence to collect accusations from the public and present them as facts. He said you can’t be the one making the accusation, investigating, charging, and judging all at once.
Claims of rape or murder must be reported to the police.

He added that formal complaints had been made against people spreading these accusations and that dozens of social media accounts were being monitored.

Ajayi said Pastor Okafor fully cooperated with police, attended all meetings, and provided evidence against allegations of rape, child abuse, or murder. He mentioned that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police asked the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, to handle the case, and the cleric was released after answering questions.

He said there was no case of Chris Okafor ignoring police invitations.

Ajayi challenged Ogala, VDM, and others to give the police their accusations and proof. He said if they believe in their claims, they should show their evidence to the police.
Otherwise, he warned, they would take all legal steps possible.

He urged the public to allow the police to finish the investigation and warned against using social media for justice instead of following the law.

He said this is a society based on law, and social media anger cannot replace investigation, evidence, and trial.
