Tekashi 6ix9ine could be released from prison today after prosecutors agreed that the rapper could serve the rest of his sentence in his home under house arrest.
Judge Paul Englemeyer initially said he lacked the legal authority to make such a decision, but his legal team after the judge told Tekashi’s team to reach out to the Bureau Of Prisons directly, they told him that the judge could make the decision.
“If the Court orders a compassionate release for him, that information will be provided to the US Marshals Service and the GEO facility for processing,” they wrote.
A letter obtained from the United States Attorney, reads, “the Government does not oppose the defendant’s motion for compassionate release,” – and Tekashi’s lawyer Lance Lazzaro says he believes his client will now be granted a release from the judge.
“I believe the judge will, at some point, approve my motion for compassionate release,” said Lazzaro. “I don’t want to put words into the judge’s mouth.”
The rapper reportedly has asthma, which puts him at risk of not only catching the virus but dying from it.
