Alfred Emberga Appointed Speaker of The Benue State House of Assembly

The legislator for Makurdi North Constituency, Alfred Emberga, has been appointed as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

He was elected during an urgent plenary meeting of the Benue State House of Assembly on Sunday, presided over by Deputy Speaker, Lami Ogenyi.

Emberga was promptly sworn in as the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly after taking the oath of office administered by the House Clerk, John Hwande.

Before his election, the lawmakers rescinded his suspension, along with those of three additional members.

The Assembly had previously altered its operating procedures to enable the business of selecting a new Speaker to continue.

Emberga, who has the backing of Governor Hyacinth Alia, committed to collaborating with lawmakers to advance the state’s development agenda.

His rise to the position followed the unexpected resignation of Aondona Dajoh as Speaker of the State Assembly on Sunday.
