ASUU [Academic Staff Union of Universities] has filed a lawsuit against Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, for abruptly suspending all union activities across state-owned universities.
Earlier, the Edo state government gave official directive to the management of the state owned higher institution to implement a “no-work-no-pay policy,” and immediately declare vacant and advertise the position of any staff member that refuses to resume duty.
Meanwhile, state owned higher Ambrose Alli University chapter of ASUU in the lawsuit filed before the National Industrial Court in Benin, urged the court to authoritatively state that the suspension was not constitutional, illegal, and beyond the scope of the powers of the defendants.
Other defendants in the already filed lawsuit are the Edo State government [ EDSG] and Attorney-general and the Commissioner for Justice.
So far, No new date has been fixed for hearing of the suit.
