Aviation fuel scarcity a sensitive national topic that cannot be avoided was during the Senate panel meeting discussed.
According to source, in course of the meeting , a lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District and the Chairman of the Senate Aviation Committee Senator Smart Adeyemi revealed that Aviation fuel scarcity in the country is caused by Nigerians Elites ( wealthy ) smuggling the product to other West African countries.
Adeyemi also lamented that Nigeria’s economic growth is not achievable if the people keep stealing, as stated that the crisis in the aviation sector in the country has become worse due to an increase in the number of privileged Nigerians who no longer travel by road due to daily insecurity issues.
Amongst other issues listed by Adeyemi is the government’s inability to make refineries work and the reduction in the value of the naira which is making it difficult for airlines to get the Jet A-1.
Senator Adeyemi concluded by disclosing that work is ongoing to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt Refinery and the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream, will be paying official visit to the site next week to look at the refineries.
