BEDC Announces One-Month Power Outage in Edo State – Full List of Affected Areas and Dates

Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) announces a planned one-month power outage in Edo State from February 27 to March 31, 2026, due to TCN maintenance on the 330kV Benin/Ajaokuta Line. See affected areas and details.

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has officially announced a scheduled electricity outage that will impact several communities across Edo State for one month.

According to a public notice released on Thursday, the disruption is linked to planned maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The upgrade will be carried out on the 330kV Benin/Ajaokuta Line 2 at the Ihovbor Transmission Station.

Outage Schedule: February 27 – March 31, 2026

BEDC confirmed that the power interruption will begin on February 27, 2026, and is expected to continue until March 31, 2026.

The maintenance is designed to improve transmission capacity and enhance the overall stability of electricity supply to the national grid.


Areas Affected by the BEDC Power Outage

The following 33kV feeders will be impacted during the maintenance period:

  • Egba 33kV Feeder
  • Oluku 33kV Feeder
  • UNIBEN 33kV Feeder
  • Ihovbor 33kV Feeder

As a result, residents and businesses in the following areas should prepare for intermittent or prolonged power disruptions:

  • UNIBEN and surrounding communities
  • Ugbowo
  • Oluku
  • Upper Sakponba
  • Ihovbor
  • Egba
  • Nearby neighborhoods within Edo State

Why the Maintenance Is Necessary

BEDC explained that the temporary blackout is part of critical infrastructure upgrades aimed at:

  • Strengthening transmission capacity
  • Improving power delivery to the national grid
  • Enhancing long-term service reliability
  • Reducing future system failures

Although the outage may cause inconvenience, the company emphasized that the project is essential for delivering improved and more stable electricity supply across its coverage areas.


BEDC Apologises to Customers

BEDC apologised to residents and businesses affected by the planned outage and urged customers to make necessary arrangements during the maintenance period.

The company also reassured consumers that the upgrade will ultimately result in better power stability and improved electricity distribution across Edo State.
