President-elect Donald Trump declared his intention to abolish birthright citizenship for offspring of undocumented immigrants born in the U.S.
Trump stated that he will enact an executive order as part of his strategy to secure the southern border starting on day 1.
“On the first day of my administration, I will execute an executive order clarifying to federal agencies that, under the proper interpretation of the law moving forward, the future offspring of undocumented immigrants will not automatically acquire U.S. citizenship,” Trump announced.
As part of his border security strategy, Trump plans to order the deportation of 11 million undocumented individuals. He will sign a series of executive orders to reinstate his border policies that were overturned by the Biden administration.
Over 18 million undocumented immigrants entered the U.S. during the Biden presidency.
Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller mentioned on Fox News that deportations will commence the moment Trump is inaugurated as president on January 20, 2025.
“They will start on Inauguration Day, right after he takes the oath of office,” he affirmed.
Trump also intends to overhaul the Department of Justice and the FBI. He will kick off by reclassifying the federal civilian workforce to facilitate the dismissal of federal employees.
Governors from Democratic states have vowed to obstruct Trump’s mass deportation initiatives.
Latinos turned out in significant numbers to help propel Trump to victory, with 45% of Latinos voting for him on Tuesday. Support among Latinas for Trump was recorded at 38%. Legal Hispanics will not face deportation.
