Food Network’s Chef Anne Burrell, 55, Ended Her Own Life, and was discovered unresponsive in her Brooklyn residence’s shower on June 17.
Authorities revealed that over 100 pills were located adjacent to Burrell’s body within the bathroom. They also attended a 911 call placed from her location earlier that morning. Officials did not reveal the cause for the previous call.
On July 25, a New York City coroner declared her cause of death as “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.”
The coroner categorized the manner of death as a suicide. She was 55 years old.
A close acquaintance disclosed that Burrell faced battles with depression and emotional challenges, having been discreetly confronting substance abuse.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Burrell’s family expressed, “Anne was a cherished wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile illuminated every space she entered. Anne’s radiance extended far beyond those she knew, impacting millions globally.”
Burrell was a treasured chef and educator who hosted the Food Network series, “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef.” She also co-hosted “Worst Cooks in America” and guest appeared on various shows including “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”
Burrell’s last season of “Worst Cooks in America” is scheduled to debut on July 28 on Food Network.
