Digital Token is set to replace the recently introduced 11-digit NIN beginning from January 2022 bluebloodz.com has learned.
The virtual national identification number (NIN) tokens introduced by by federal government of Nigeria contains 16 alphabets and numbers, which will replace the NIN from January 2022.
Minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami in his reported speech at the stakeholders workshop on the ‘NIN Tokenization Solution’ Said the NIN tokenisation is aimed at protecting the personal information of citizens.
Pantami said Nigerians can use the virtual NIN module when verifification of their distinct identity with an agent or enterprise is needed before classified services (banks, airports, shopping delivery, among others) can be offered to them.
He also noted that virtual NIN tokens are merchant-specific and expiration period of 72 hours . This implies that when a token is generated for company A , it cannot be used or verified by company B for whatever purpose intended.
Isa Pantami was dutifully represented at the event by Aliyu Aziz, NIMC director-general.
