The eNaira digital currency since its emergence has brought major concern as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warns Nigerians to be cautious of cyber criminal who have been posting fraudulent messages in line with the recently launched eNaira using fake social media handles.
CBN Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, said in a post written on the bank’s official website on Wednesday, that the bank has not started the disbursement of the digital eNaira currency to Nigerians as claimed by the cyber criminals .
Osita Nwanisobi said, “Following the offficial launch of the eNaira on Monday, Oct. 25, the attention of the Central Bank has been drawn to activities of some minded individuals operating a fake Twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc used by the criminal minds to deceive unsuspecting citizens with falsities of idea that it belong to the CBN.
These online criminals constantly put out broadcast messages to naive online users with links attached for application to obtain eNaira wallets and become selected beneficiaries of the invisible 50 billion eNaira digital currency.
To clear all doubts, twitter handle @enaira_cbdc does not belong to the CBN.
