The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria FAAN has announced the launch of a zero contact Payment System at all airports in Nigeria beginning with the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
This initiative, introduced in collaboration with fintech firm Paystack, initiates “Operation Go Cashless,” which aims to eliminate cash transactions at FAAN revenue points, including airport access gates, parking areas, VIP sections, & protocol lounges, among others.
Historically, FAAN has primarily gathered its revenue in cash. The airport authority shared this information in a statement released on Thursday via its X account.
FAAN emphasized that starting September 29, 2025, all payments to the authority will transition to a touchless payment method.
This change is intended to offer travelers a quicker, safer, &more streamlined experience while enhancing operational efficiency and transparency within the airports.
The statement partially notes,
“Starting September 29, 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points, such as airport Access Gates, Parking Areas, FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges, will shift to cashless, which means we will discontinue cash collection at these sites.
“Travelers and airport visitors will now benefit from rapid and seamless services through a secure touchless payment option. This initiative is a response to the increasing demand for secure, contemporary, and transparent payment systems while ensuring Nigeria’s airports align with global digital advancements. By reducing dependence on cash, FAAN aims to boost efficiency, bolster revenue assurance, and offer an enhanced customer experience at our airports.”
In anticipation of this rollout, FAAN reported that it has stationed trained brand ambassadors at terminals to assist users during the transition.
FAAN also mentioned that these ambassadors will help with onboarding, provide demonstrations, & address any inquiries travelers may have. Additionally, passengers can obtain the newly introduced FAAN Go Cashless Card at access gates in Lagos and Abuja. Once acquired, these cards can be activated and loaded via www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.
“To facilitate the transition, trained brand ambassadors are placed at access points and throughout the terminals to guide users, assist with onboarding, provide demonstrations, and answer questions they may possess.
According to FAAN, the policy will be phased in across other airports nationwide, reflecting its commitment to ongoing service enhancement and digital transformation.
