At least 25 armed thugs disrupted a meeting being held by the Traditional Rulers Council in Calabar South LGA at the weekend.
This was disclosed by the Muri Munene of the Efut and Paramount Ruler of Calabar South, Prof Itam Hogan Itam, during an interview with journalists.
The meeting, he said, was being convened to stop the recent deadly violence in the local government area, when the thugs invaded the venue.
“The Traditional Rulers Council decided to meet to discuss peace when over 25 armed thugs attacked us and disrupted the meeting,” he said.
The monarch also linked the attack to those opposed to his enthronement as the paramount ruler of Calabar South by Governor Ben Ayade who handed him the staff of office, certificate of recognition and other paraphernalia of office on September 28, 2018.
“After I got the staff of office from the governor, some forces have continued to foment trouble. They said they don’t recognise the governor’s action. These same people are behind killings and kidnappings in Calabar South. That was why we decided to meet to find a lasting solution,” he said.
