A Nigerian man @ChukEricE has caused a lot of online discussion after saying that a man who supports his partner financially has the right to control her lifestyle and personal decisions.
In a video that went viral on X (formerly Twitter), posted by @ChukEricE, he said men are becoming “too soft” in today’s relationships.
He said:
“If I am taking care of you, paying your bills, and making sure you don’t have any stress in your life, I will control you.”
He also said that women shouldn’t dress in ways their partner doesn’t like, insist on their own privacy, or keep friends that a man doesn’t approve of, especially if he is fully responsible for their money.
He believed that setting boundaries is often misunderstood and wrongly seen as insecurity.
He also said that talking about “red flags,” social media culture, and relationship advice from TikTok has made men less confident and less in control in relationships.
“I will check your phone because there’s no privacy.
If you have nothing to hide, there’s nothing to hide. I will tell you which friends I don’t want you to keep, and if you don’t agree with my values, nobody is forcing you to stay in the relationship,” he added.
He went on to say that being serious in a relationship means fully agreeing with a man’s values, and if someone isn’t comfortable with that, they should leave.
His comments have caused a lot of strong reactions online.
Some men supported his views, but many women strongly disagreed.
One person wrote, “So because he pays the bills, I have no privacy and no freedom?”
Another said, “No amount of money should give someone the right to control how I live.”
