Nigeria’s iconic netminder, Peter Rufai, has passed away.
A radio broadcast on Thursday reported that Rufai, affectionately known as Dodomayana by his admirers, succumbed on Thursday after battling a long-term illness.

The former Super Eagles custodian was 61 years old.
Eagle Online remembers that Peter Rufai guarded the goal when Nigeria clinched the 1994 African Cup of Nations.
He participated in two editions of the FIFA World Cup.
Besides playing for local teams, Rufai also showcased his skills in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.
