Israeli Ambassador Accuses Iran of Backing Extremist Groups in Nigeria and Globally

Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria Michael Freeman alleges that Iran supports extremist groups in Nigeria and other regions, claiming Tehran’s activities are aimed at destabilizing countries and targeting Israel.

Israeli Envoy Claims Iran Supports Extremist Activities in Nigeria

The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has alleged that Iran is involved in sponsoring extremist movements in Nigeria and other regions across the globe.

Speaking during an interview on The Morning Show on Arise News on Friday, Freeman accused Tehran of supporting groups that contribute to instability in several countries while pursuing its long-standing hostility toward Israel.

Claims of Iran’s Hostility Toward Israel

According to the ambassador, Iran remains the only member state within the United Nations that openly calls for the destruction of another sovereign nation.

Freeman argued that Iran’s political leadership has repeatedly declared its intention to eliminate Israel, a position that has shaped its foreign policy for decades.

He claimed that Iranian authorities have taken concrete steps over the past 47 years to advance this objective, including supporting militant organizations that oppose Israel.

Alleged Support for Militant Groups

Freeman specifically alleged that Iran has provided backing to groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

He also claimed that Tehran played a role in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, an assault that significantly escalated tensions in the Middle East.

According to the envoy, Iranian influence has been observed in various regions, including parts of Europe, Australia, and Africa, where he alleged the country has attempted to fuel instability.

Allegations Involving Nigeria

Speaking about Nigeria specifically, Freeman alleged that the Islamic Movement of Nigeria receives support from the Iranian government.

He pointed to statements and social media posts made by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, as evidence suggesting a connection between Tehran and the group.

Freeman stated that such support is not hidden, claiming that Iran’s leadership has publicly expressed its backing in various communications.

Concerns About Regional Stability

The Israeli diplomat warned that Iranian involvement could have broader implications for stability in West Africa.

He argued that Tehran’s activities are not limited to Nigeria but extend across multiple countries in the region.

According to Freeman, these efforts are part of a wider strategy aimed at creating global disturbances while advancing Iran’s geopolitical objectives.

He emphasized that Israel would strongly oppose any scenario in which Iran obtains nuclear weapons, citing concerns that such capabilities could be used against Israel.
