After being closed for enhancements to meet global standards for five months, Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, has welcomed its initial flight.
The aircraft, a sophisticated addition to the presidential fleet,arrived at the airport precisely at 9:14 am on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, ahead of its scheduled arrival on Friday, September 26, 2025.
A statement from Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, indicated that with this successful landing, the airport is now poised to manage high-profile flights efficiently and securely.
Olanrewaju remarked:
“President Bola Tinubu is anticipated in Ibadan on Friday for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“With the presidential flight expected to arrive shortly, this flight marks a favorable beginning for future arrivals and departures since March 2025.
“Recall that in September 2024, Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the airport’s upgrade.
“Makinde mentioned during the event that the renovation would link the state to international markets.
“The governor also acknowledged that, ‘The airport’s enhancement is anticipated to improve air travel operations and offer a dependable transport network for both business and leisure travelers, positioning the state for economic advancement and development.’
“Previously, the Makinde administration had revamped the VIP lounge and procured a fire truck. It also established a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage and dispensing system.
