MultiChoice Cuts DStv Decoder Prices to Get Back Lost Subscribers

MultiChoice Nigeria has halved the cost of its DStv decoder from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000.

The organization declared that this decision is aimed at luring more patrons.

As stated by the firm’s CEO, John Ugbe, in a press release on Tuesday, the initiative is designed to reward customer loyalty and offer greater value to its subscribers.

“We seek to make our customers feel valued and provide them with the finest entertainment every single day.

The ‘We Got You’ campaign focuses on making premium content more reachable and illustrates that DStv has something for everyone, not just sports enthusiasts.

“By redefining itself as a daily value platform, DStv seeks to promote content exploration across a broader range of genres, including cinema, storytelling, children’s programming, and news.

“This translates to additional channels, more programs, and countless reasons to tune in daily,” the announcement emphasized.

The company also introduced a promotional deal allowing subscribers a complimentary upgrade to the subsequent DStv package tier when they fully pay for their current subscription between June 16 and July 31, 2025.

Multichoice upheld the price reduction, with the free upgrade program motivated by “the significant economic influence on the daily lives of Nigerians.”

This comes after a loss of 1.4 million subscribers from March 2023 to March 2025.

It’s worth noting that MultiChoice Nigeria raised its DStv and GOtv bouquet prices thrice in a year—initially in April 2023, followed by another increase in November 2023, and a third increment announced in April 2024, effective from May 1.
