Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was swiftly taken to a medical facility after tumbling and breaking her hip in Luxembourg, Germany. The mishap took place just hours after Pelosi took a picture in which she seems to lean significantly on a congressman while grasping his hand for balance.
The 84-year-old representative from California suffered a hip fracture during an official visit to Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, mentioned in a statement that she is “presently receiving excellent care from medical experts and healthcare providers” and is unable to partake in the remaining engagements of her trip.
Hip fractures are severe injuries that can result in life-threatening issues such as blood clots in the lungs and infections.
Hip fractures are prevalent among seniors due to weakened bones from various medical conditions like osteoporosis and menopause.
The recovery period for hip injuries can span months, often necessitating the use of a walker or cane. The duration of recovery tends to increase with age.
