NBC ( National broadcasting commission) is on the move to make sure public and privately owned TV stations feature sign language interpretations while major news presentations is ongoing.
The initiative was decided by Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed at the 2021 Annual Lecture of the FRCN ( Federal Radio Corporation Nigeria ) in Abuja on Thursday.
During the meeting , a participant -Monsurat Abdulwasiu drew the attention of the minister and those in attendance to the deficiency of the physically challenged in various sectors – media ( with exception to NTA ), Health etc.
Lai mohammed in response, said he was touched by the young lady’s contribution and thoughtfulness and promised to give the directive to the Broadcasting commission to enact on all media houses across the federation. He added that the directive is a way of making sure people with disabilities are included in government policies and other programmes.
