Nigerian Army Raises Alarm Over Fake COAS Account

The Nigerian Army has asked people to be careful about social media accounts that say they are connected to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.These accounts are fake and run by people pretending to be the real ones.

In a statement on Friday, the Army, through the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said that General Shaibu does not have any official social media pages on any platform. The Army urged the public not to interact with these fake accounts and warned that they are trying to catch the people behind them and take them to court. The statement said that the Nigerian Army has noticed a lot of fake accounts being created by dishonest people. These accounts pretend to be connected to the Chief of Army Staff or the Nigerian Army.

The Army made it clear that the COAS does not have any official social media presence. They told the public to be very careful and watch out for scammers who might use these fake accounts to trick people, ask for money, or spread false information in the name of the COAS or the Army.The public is told not to reply, share, or engage with these fake accounts.

The Army also said they are doing everything needed to catch those running the fake accounts and will bring them to justice. They wanted to let the public know that the Army is fully committed to protecting the people and the country’s borders as the constitution says.
