A young Nigerian man, Maniru Ibrahim, and a first-class graduate of mathematics from the Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto state, has gotten a scholarship award worth billions in naira for his PhD programme.
The scholarship worth €20 million in foreign currency and N9,206,407,800 in Naira equivalent is funded by the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research Training in the Foundation of Data Science.
According to reports, He will be receiving a yearly allowance of €18,500 (N8,515,927.22) for the duration of his four-year programme.
The scholarship funds also include travel and accommodation allowances for conferences related to his course of study.

He revealed that he was recently shortlisted for a master’s program for theoretical physics in Italy where only three other Nigerians were picked, and he was rejected.
Maniru said that when the level of rejections became much with regards to his PhD, he was down casted.
Maniru also disclosed that he had his primary, secondary and university education all in Sokoto and then proceeded to Zamfara state for his NYSC .
The Scholarship from the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Research Training in the Foundation of Data Science – is the first of its kind and Maniru Ibarahim is the only African recipient thus far .
