Seasoned Nollywood star Bimbo Akintola has expressed her concerns regarding a prevalent issue in the Nollywood industry.
During a recent interview, the seasoned actress lamented that today’s Nollywood seems to prioritize aesthetics over genuine passion, in stark contrast to the earlier days when she and her peers began their careers.
She reminisced that, in the past, actors were motivated solely by their fervor and a drive for creativity, rather than financial gain or glamour. She recalled tirelessly working long hours, even overnight, without regard for food or earnings, all in the name of bringing stories to life.
Akintola highlighted that icons like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale were equally dedicated to their art, putting the craft above personal comfort.
She remarked that the landscape has shifted, with many contemporary actors more focused on makeup, fashion, and their overall appearance, even resorting to cosmetic procedures like BBLs.
“The passion has diminished… it’s now focused on appearances, not substance,” she noted, emphasizing that while looks may fade, true artistic talent endures.
