DJ Akademiks is talking about a big change in hip hop culture. He thinks today’s rappers aren’t as popular with young fans as they used to be.
In a recent livestream, he said that rappers have made a big mistake in the last couple of years. They were trying to get more views and online attention, so they started working with streamers a lot.
He said that appearing on streams by people like Kai Cenat, Adin Ross, and N3on helped those streamers a lot more than it helped the rappers. He mentioned Tory Lanez being on Adin Ross’s stream years ago as an example of this trend.
Akademiks said this has made audiences prefer long-form personalities over short songs that can be unpredictable. He believes that rappers have given their fans to streamers by focusing more on popularity than on skill.
He said fans are now being drawn to personalities instead of music. He added that rappers now have to go to streamers’ rooms to get attention back, and fans are making a tough decision.
