The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has delivered a stern warning to the citizens of Nigeria. The anti-corruption organization raised a red flag regarding the alarming new behavior emerging among internet scammers, commonly known as “Yahoo Boys.”

The agency expressed disappointment that these fraudsters have now turned to spiritual practices in their pursuit of illegal riches. In a statement shared on its official X platform on Friday, October 17, the EFCC identified the suspects as “G Boys,” disclosing that numerous individuals are now participating in ritualistic activities to enhance their deceitful schemes.

The commission voiced its worries that what was once an exclusively digital crime has evolved to incorporate spiritual and ritualistic elements. The EFCC cautioned Nigerians to stay alert, pointing out that this new tendency is becoming increasingly prevalent among youth yearning for quick earnings. The agency emphasized its awareness of these trends and affirmed that it will act decisively to ensure the offenders are brought to justice. In its announcement, the EFCC stated:

“G Boys are now embracing spirituality through rituals, making it the new norm. EFCC will pursue anyone involved; it won’t be business as usual.”

The commission reiterated its dedication to combating all varieties of internet fraud and financial crimes, warning that no form of spiritual endorsement or ritualistic practice will shield transgressors from facing the repercussions of their actions.

It also reassured Nigerians that the agency remains unwavering in its mission to shield society from the detrimental effects of cybercrime.
