Ruth Otabor, the sibling of Big Brother Naija Season 7 champion Phyna, has sadly passed away.
Her life was cut short following a heartbreaking incident involving a Dangote truck close to Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
The family revealed her death on Sunday via a statement from Eko Solicitors & Advocates, confirming that Ruth departed this world on Sunday at approximately 6:30 a.m.
“With profound sorrow, the family regrets to share the transition of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at around 06:30Hrs,” read the statement.
The tragedy took place on August 13, 2025, merely six days after Ruth celebrated her graduation from the polytechnic, and resulted in the loss of her leg.
Witnesses reported that the massive truck crushed her leg before it was brought to a halt by a passerby.
Phyna has been advocating for justice for her sister, blaming the company for negligence and pledging to ensure the incident does not fade away quietly.
Dangote Group acknowledged their accountability for the accident, promising thorough medical assistance and suitable compensation to Ruth’s family.
Nevertheless, Phyna voiced her anger after company personnel shared images of her injured sister online without consent.
Ruth’s death has prompted a wave of grief, with fans and fellow celebrities mourning her and demanding justice.
The family has requested privacy during their time of sorrow and will share details about the funeral arrangements in the near future.
“The family is currently mourning and would appreciate being granted a private moment to grieve the departed.
“The funeral arrangements will be announced to the public in due course,” the statement concluded.
