Nigerian rapper and singer Superboy Cheque has opened up about his painful battle with acne and how it nearly forced him to abandon his music dreams.

Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the “Zoom” crooner shared how his skin condition severely affected his confidence and social life.

“I Almost Quit Music” – Cheque Recalls Difficult Period

Cheque described his acne experience as “terrible,” revealing that his desperation to fix it led him to purchase a makeup product that almost caused permanent damage to his face.

“I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music. I couldn’t even approach women then.”

The rapper explained that after his breakthrough single Zoom gained massive attention and he secured a record deal, reality hit him.

He realized he would constantly be in front of cameras, attending interviews and public events — something that intensified his insecurities.

Makeup Product Nearly Damaged His Face

According to the artist, his desire to look perfect on screen pushed him into making a risky decision.

“After my breakthrough song ‘Zoom’ and I got signed by a record label, it dawned on me that I would be attending interviews and would be in front of cameras. I am a perfectionist. So, I went to get a makeup from a store to clear it, but instead it almost disfigured my face. I woke up one morning and realised that my whole face had been damaged.”

The incident further affected his relationship with cameras and public appearances, adding emotional stress to an already challenging time.
