Tinubu Appoints Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

President Bola Tinubu appoints Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance and reassigns Doris Uzoka-Anite to the Budget Ministry. Senate confirmation process begins.


Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who also revealed that Uzoka-Anite has been reassigned to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State.

According to the statement, President Tinubu has formally forwarded Oyedele’s nomination to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Taiwo Oyedele’s Role in Nigeria’s Tax Reforms

Before his ministerial nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system and introduce major fiscal reforms.

Oyedele, who hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is widely regarded as an experienced economist, accountant, and public policy expert.

Education and Professional Background

The 50-year-old began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance.

He later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom.

Oyedele also completed executive education programmes at several prestigious institutions, including:

  • London School of Economics
  • Yale University
  • Gordon Institute of Business Science
  • Harvard Kennedy School

Career at PwC and Academic Work

Before moving into government service, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He joined the global consulting firm in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Beyond his professional career, Oyedele is also involved in academia. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and works as a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

His nomination is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal management and tax reform agenda under the Tinubu administration.
