Tinubu has awarded the posthumous national distinction of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Taoreed Lagbaja.
The accolade was bestowed during his memorial service held at the National Cemetery in Mogadishu, Abuja, on Friday, November 15.
In his homage, President Tinubu referred to the deceased COAS as a reliable counselor and a man of wise actions who placed the nation and the welfare of his subordinates above all else.
“Throughout his military tenure, his legacy of dedication will be forever honored,” Tinubu remarked. “As a lasting emblem of our gratitude, I have bestowed upon the late Chief of Army Staff the posthumous national distinction of Commander of the Federal Republic.”
Tinubu emphasized that General Lagbaja was one of his finest appointments and praised his steadfast belief in the military forces.
“While we grieve his loss, we also celebrate his life. We must reaffirm our commitment to the values and love for the country for which he fought. For his bravery, sacrifice, and leadership, General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja will eternally occupy a place among military legends,” the president further stated.
The president commended Lagbaja’s insight into the military’s significance in protecting Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and applauded his bravery and commitment to the well-being of the troops.
